Peer Helpers

Purpose:  In order to introduce students to the teaching profession and to support students and teachers academically in the classroom, we are shifting the expectations for the “Peer Helper” program.  Participating students should be those who have successfully completed the class they are mentoring in and know expectations up front for receiving .5 elective credit.

Students enrolled as a Peer Helpers are expected to:

  • Attend class on a daily basis to support the teacher with instruction.

  • Actively monitor students and be available for questions and to work in small groups.

  • Work on the teacher edition of the Interactive Notebook.

  • Hand out papers, collect work, spot check assignments.

What Peer Helpers are not:

  • Not working on homework in the back of the room or in teacher’s office.

  • Running errands for teachers.

  • Sporadic attenders.
