School Profile

Greeley West is a comprehensive four-year high school established in 1965 and rebuilt in 2022, accredited by the Colorado Department of Education. Nestled in the front range of Colorado, GWHS serves the communities of Greeley and Evans, with a total population of approximately 130,778. Greeley West has a rich tradition of providing students with rigorous academic programs. Curriculum includes College Preparatory, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate pathways that challenge each student to reach their potential.

Schedule & Grading

Schedule

At Greeley West High School, the academic program utilizes a Modified Block Schedule, where each Monday is a traditional schedule with periods 1-8, and Tuesdays through Fridays feature alternating odd periods (1-3-5-7) and even periods (2-4-6-8).
On the traditional Monday schedule, classes are 40 minutes long, while block schedule periods are 100 minutes each.
Students are enrolled in 8 classes per semester, where they earn 0.5 per class, totaling 4.0 credits per semester, and are allowed to take 6 classes during senior year.
The calendar is divided by semesters comprised of approximately 18 weeks each.
During the 2020-2021 school year, GWHS operated on a quarter schedule, offering four classes each term. Students engaged in in-person, synchronous learning two days a week, and at home, asynchronous learning three days a week.

Grading

All courses in grades 9-12 are used in computing students’ GPA. Greeley West awards additional weights for AP, IB, and college-level courses. Both the GPA and Class Rank that appear on the transcript are weighted.

International Baccalaureate Course Offerings

Greeley West is an authorized IB World school and houses the district IB Middle Years Program and IB Diploma Program. In the two-year Diploma Program, 11th and 12th grade students select academically rigorous courses each year from our IB course offerings.
